Bermondsey Square Hotel, part of the Bespoke Hotels Group, is a brand new boutique hotel in a buzzing part of London with 79 designer bedrooms. Its international clientele understands and requires the best service, including up to the minute communications.
Challenge
Although telephony represents a relatively small proportion of the total investment in a new hotel, along with its staff it is the prerequisite requirement for its smooth running.
It was important that the appointed communications supplier should be able to demonstrate expertise in the supply, installation and maintenance of premium phone systems, particularly in regard to those used by hotels with their mixture of front/back of house, guest rooms, conference suites, reception, restaurant, bar, offices and services areas. Impressed with Marcom Communications’ track record as a Siemens Premier Partner, Marcom were appointed to provide an end-to-end solution. Given that the hotel occupied a new building with no inherent BT network, the client needed to ensure that all their communications were integrated and ready for the hotel’s opening. And so, Marcom’s brief included liaison with BT and management of the total solution.
Solution
It was essential that the phone system would integrate with the hotel’s Softbrands’ Medallion PMS software. Marcom installed a Siemens HiPath 3800 system, together with Callista Multifunctional PMS, which linked to the Medallion PMS, and Ezinet high speed controllable internet access. This enabled multiple features including guest billing from room to check-out bill, lock/unlock of room phones, digital lines and ADSL broadband for the hotel and guests’ use. Marcom also supplied analogue connectivity for the hotel’s PDQ use.
Results
The system went live in April 09 as planned and the opening of the hotel was enhanced by the professional and easily understood communications.
Summing up the relationship with Marcom, Will Oakley, General Manager, Bermondsey Square Hotel commented:
“Our experience with Marcom, who are part of the Redstone group, has been a good one. During the installation and commissioning they have worked with us and have, on a number of occasions, exceeded their brief. An example of that followed the late installation of a metal surround to our kitchen area which resulted in interference to our mobile DECT handsets used by staff throughout the hotel. Marcom, without extra cost to us, added additional DECT base stations ensuring that the handsets continued to function consistently everywhere in the hotel. Similarly, given that the Bermondsey BT exchange is old, occasionally resulting in lines going down, Marcom provided engineers to overcome problems caused by third parties, to ensure that the system would be functioning properly by the time we opened for business.
We have built a very good, confident, relationship with Marcom and had no hesitation in recommending them to our Group Procurement Officer. We were therefore pleased to learn that subsequently Marcom has been invited to supply the communications systems and ongoing maintenance to other hotels within the Bespoke portfolio, in London and Cornwall. “
